The grey Straight Egyptian mare Spruce Tamin was foaled in July 1987 in the United States, bred by Talaria Farms of John and Julia Stroube.
Spruce Tamin was sired by Prince Ibn Shaikh, a son of Shaikh Al Badi and RDM Maar Hala. Shaikh Al Badi was admired for siring refined and well-balanced offspring that embodied the classic desert type. Through him, Spruce Tamin traced to Morafic, one of the most influential Straight Egyptian sires in the development of the modern Arabian breeding program in the United States.
Spruce Tamin's dam, Chafa Al Bukra, by Ansata El Sherif and out of Wazifa, belonged to the Venus db dam-line. This line is known for producing mares of enduring broodmare strength and consistent type, for example the mare Zebeda by El Sareei who produced twelve registered foals including Shaker El Masri, foundation stallion at Om El Arab and lifelong companion of the legendary Estopa. Zebeda was also the dam of Waheeba, the great-granddam of Spruce Tamin..
The maternal grandsire Ansata El Sherif was a son by Ansata Ibn Halima and Ansata Bint Bukra, both foundation horses of Ansata Arabian Stud in the United States.
In the mid 1990's, Spruce Tamin was acquired by La Movida Arabians in Austria, the breeding program of Ferdinand Huemer, where she became part of his exclusive collection of mares. At La Movida Arabians she produced three fillies. Her first born daughter was her most notable one: LM Sadunga. LM Sadunga was a bay mare by the Spanish bred stallion El Perfecto. Some say, she was the most beautiful mare of her time. She became European Champion Filly in 1995.
Spruce Tamin and LM Sadunga were then acquired by Dieter Gerbaulet from Germany. For Gerbaulet, Spruce Tamin produced two more foals: Tamina by Scottsdale Champion Stallion FS Bengali and a colt named Shaikh Al Nizr by Anaza El Nizr. But it was her daughter LM Sadunga that continued the line of Spruce Tamin. At Gerbaulet's stud LM Sadunga established herself as an outstanding broodmare. Her first foal, Shaklan Ibn Bengali, was sired by FS Bengali and was German National Reserve Champion Colt in 1998, Swiss National Reserve Champion Stallion in 2006 and premium stallion in Germany.
Another son, the grey Ashur by Assad was premium stallion in Germany and sired Al Ashar, a German Elite Stallion, that has excelled in show jumping and dressage.
LM Sadunga’s grey daughter Sabrina (aka Sabrina VII) by Crusader was successfully halter shown. Another daughter of LM Sadunga continued Spruce Tamin's legacy in Spain: DG Bint Sadunga by Javier El Jamaal. In Spain, she became National Bronze Champion and Silver Champion Mare in 2012 and 2014 respectively, demonstrating that the family’s quality carried consistently through the generations.
