Sir James Penn Boucaut, a Judge of the Supreme Court and Premier of South Australia, started his Quambi Stud in 1891 as one of the first breeders in Australia with three Crabbet horses. Then years later he again imported Crabbets to his stud: two mares and one stallion. The name of the stallion was Faraoun. He was sired by the legendary Mesaoud. This light chestnut stallion with his bright blaze and four white stockings was acquired by Lady Anne Blunt of Crabbet Park from the Egyptian horse breeder Ali Pasha Sherif. The Blunts imported Mesaoud to England in 1891. He was the first super sire of Crabbet Park where he left a high number of offspring (compared to other Arabian sires of that time) before the Blunts sold him to Russia in 1901.
Faraoun was ouf of the Straight Egyptian mare Fulana, a Saklawiyah Zubayni by Ibn Nura who the Blunts imported to their stud in 1897. At Crabbet Park, she left 8 foals before her death in 1908. Today her line only lives through her son Faraoun in Australia.
While Faraoun did not sire registered offspring in the UK, he sired two fillies at Quambi Stud: the bay mares Zarif and Khadijad. Khadijad's daughter Deryabar went on to found a strong Australian family.
Judge Boucaut dispersed his stud in 1908 where Faraoun was the top selling horse. The whereabouts of Faraoun after the sale is not known.
