The stallion DA Karat was foaled in 2004, bred by Cornelia Kolnberger of Diamond Arabians in Austria. He was sired by DA Kairo and out of the black bay mare Ravenna.
DA Kairo was by DA Korrado and out of Riva. Through his paternal grandsire DA Korrado, DA Karat carries the influential Russian sire line of Kubinec, Balaton, and Menes, three stallions that left a lasting mark on modern Arabian breeding. DA Kairo also sired the mare DA Kismet, dam of DA Just a Diamond, Austrian National Gold Champion Colt in 2013.
On the maternal side, DA Karat’s dam Ravenna was a daughter by Vympel, the black bay stallion bred at Tersk Stud in Russia. Exported first to the Netherlands and later to Switzerland, Vympel was leased by Hans Trummer in 1993 and 1994 and also stood at stud at SAX Arabians in Bavaria. Ravenna’s dam, Rawayeh, was sired by the Egyptian stallion Kais I and descended from a Crabbet mare line. Imported to Austria by Anton Balaz, Rawayeh was later acquired by Cornelia Kolnberger, where Rawayeh became one of her foundation mares. Through Ravanna, DA Karat is half-brother to DA Kandahar, Austrian National Bronze Champion Stallion in 2014.
Shortly after his birth, DA Karat was sold to Brigitte Sprave in Germany. Standing 15.2hh, he matured into an athletic stallion of impressive presence, with strong bone, good depth, and a striking dark chestnut coat. In 2006, he was licensed with the White Ribbon of the German Arabian Horse Association. The following year, he was shown at the Arabica in Frankfurt, where he placed third in his class.
