The grey Straight Egyptian stallion Alidaar was foaled in 1984 in the United States, bred by Mildred and Russell Jameson of Ruminaja Arabians. A full brother to the renowned sire Ruminaja Ali, Alidaar carried an exceptional pedigree, combining some of the most influential lines of modern Egyptian breeding. Over the course of his life, he became a key figure in international Straight Egyptian programs in Europe and the Middle East.
Alidaar was sired by Shaikh Al Badi (Morafic x Bint Maisa El Saghira), a grey stallion celebrated for his elegance, type, and influence as a sire. Shaikh Al Badi was remembered for his lively yet controlled energy, noble head, and perfectly balanced silhouette, with a gracefully arched neck blending into powerful shoulders. He achieved success in the U.S. show ring, earning multiple class A halter championships and the U.S. National Futurity Reserve Champion title at age three. Over his lifetime, he sired nearly 700 foals, many of them champions, and became one of Morafic’s most prominent sons. His sire Morafic was foaled in 1956 at Egypt’s El Zahraa Stud. He was imported to the U.S. by Gleannloch Farms in 1965. A champion in the U.S., he became a leading imported Egyptian sire of national winners and producers, transmitting refinement, type, and elegance to his descendants.
Alidaar’s dam, Bint Magidaa (by Khofo x Magidaa), was widely admired for her refinement, expressive eyes, upright carriage, and short, well-proportioned back. As a filly, she impressed all visitors to Ruminaja Farms with her type and presence, foreshadowing her extraordinary career as a broodmare. Bint Magidaa produced multiple exceptional foals, including the full-brothers Ruminaja Ali, Ruminaja Bahjat, Ruminaja Fayez and Alidaar himself, as well as influential daughters such as Bint Bint Magidaa and Miss Maggie Mae.
In 1991, Alidaar was exported to Europe, purchased by Willi and Ursula Poth, founders of Dobel Stud in Germany and later breeders in southern France. The Poths were dedicated to Straight Egyptian Arabians and had imported prominent stallions including Ibn Galal (Magdi), Mehanna, Sherif Pascha, Mohssen and Alidaar himself. In the mid-1990s, a half share of Alidaar was sold to Jürgen Wölk, who later acquired full ownership.
Alidaar was subsequently leased for breeding in Germany (Authentic Egyptian Arabians / Kolster family) and Switzerland (Hanaya Stud / Nayla Hayek), extending his influence across Europe. In 1998, Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Khalid Al Thani of Al Rayyan Farm, Qatar, purchased him. He was later leased to H.H. The Emir of Qatar for Al Shaqab Stud, before returning to Al Rayyan Farm, where he continued to produce high-quality Straight Egyptian foals.
Alidaar began his show career in the United States under the management of David Gardner of Arabians Ltd., Texas. Between 1986 and 1990, he competed in Region 9 events, earning one Championship, one Reserve and multiple Top Five placings. He was recognized as a U.S. and Canadian Top Ten Futurity Stallion.
In Europe, Alidaar impressed judges from the outset. At Menton in 1991, he received near-perfect scores in his first French show. He went on to place seventh in Paris (1993), second at Aachen (1995), and Champion Stallion at Frauenfeld (1995). He won the “Platinum Cup” in 1997. In Qatar, he twice earned National Reserve Champion titles and placed second twice in the Qatar International Show for stallions 11 years and older.
Though overshadowed by his celebrated full brother Ruminaja Ali, Alidaar established his own reputation as a sire of refined, expressive, and well-conformed progeny. Among his notable European offspring were the stallions Classic Shadwan, who stood at Rothenberg Stud, Miad Al Shaqab, winner of a gold ribbon at the German stallion licensing and later a sire at Birkhof Stud, Germany and Classic Rayan, all of whom reinforced Alidaar’s reputation as a prepotent sire.
Alidaar died in September 2010 at the age of twenty-six, leaving behind a significant legacy of over 200 registered offspring, including influential sires and broodmares that continue to shape Straight Egyptian breeding in Europe and the Middle East.
