The Straight Russian mare Agnes was sired by Grand, a grey stallion foaled in 1984 at Tersk Stud. Grand was by Mukomol, chief sire at Tersk during the 1980s and 1990s, and out of Nevesta. His sire line traces back to the French-bred stallion Denouste, whose line was noted for producing outstanding performance horses. Grand’s dam, Nevesta, was Russian National Champion Mare, and through her, Grand was a half-brother to the European Champion Vatican. After being used as a breeding stallion in Russia, Grand was exported to the Netherlands, where he was named Dutch National Champion in 1996. He was later exported to Italy.
Agnes’ dam Sova was also bred at Tersk in 1979. A chestnut daughter by Angel (by Aswan), Sova was foaled shortly before Angel’s export to Sweden in 1983, following his brief use at Tersk. Sova’s dam was Statuja, a daughter by Arax, from the female line tracing to Belle-Et-Bonne, the French import by Djebel. Agnes was acquired by Uschi Klein in Germany while in foal to Kupol. In 1997 she produced Espirit II by Kupol. Following this, she foaled five colts: three by Prognoz and two by Diamond Head (by Negasimyi).
In 2009, Agnes was sold to Dr. Katri Elina Clemens, under whose ownership she produced two additional foals, a colt and a filly, both by Prognoz. The filly, EC Annys, bred on producing EC Aydan by KP Al Nakib Ibn Tameen in 2023.
By the time Agnes was nearly 20 years old, having produced a total of eight foals, she was retired from breeding.
In 2013, Agnes was shown at the Kaub National C Show, where she was named Senior Bronze Champion Mare. Kaub was also the venue of her final public appearance in August 2014, when she competed and placed third in her class. One year later, she passed at the age of 23.
