Abakana Kossack
Bred and owned by The Kossack Stud in the Netherlands, Abakana Kossack was born in 2001.
This bay mare is sired by Balaton (Menes x Panagia), universally acknowledged as a “Horse of the Century” due to the extraordinary quality of his progeny. Balaton’s influence on European and global Arabian breeding is beyond dispute, most notably as the sire of Kubinec, European and World Champion Stallion, and a stallion whose descendants dominate modern pedigrees.
Her dam, Amunitia (Antey x Malta), was herself a mare of exceptional genetic value. Her sire Antey was a Aswan son and National Champion Stallion in the Netherlands in 1982. Through her dam Malta by Topol, Amunitia traced to the legendary broodmare Mammona who built her own family with world-wide influence.
Tragically, Amunitia died at the age of 19 when Abakana was only two weeks old, making Abakana her final daughter. Despite her short life, Amunitia left an indelible legacy: she is also the dam of Abakan (by Balaton), bred at Tersk and later a highly respected sire in France, and Artemida (by Mukomol), an excellent broodmare and the dam of Albania, Dutch National Champion Mare 2011.
Recognized as one of the most outstanding broodmares in the Netherlands, Abakana Kossack holds 1st Premium Mare and Elite Broodmare status within the AVS (Dutch Arab Horse Society). In 2015, her importance to straight Russian breeding was formally acknowledged when she was awarded the prestigious WAHO Trophy, honoring her exceptional pedigree, quality, and breeding achievements.
In the show ring, Abakana Kossack proved her own merit, consistently winning classes and often appearing with a prize-winning foal at her side. Her accolades include three Silver Champion titles and two Bronze Champion titles at major Dutch shows, notably National Silver Champion Senior Mare in 2009 and Bronze Champion Senior Mare in 2010.
Abakana’s true legacy, however, lies in her extraordinary progeny record. She has produced multiple champions, including Adream of Kossack, Agolden Girl of Kossack, A Lady of Kossack, and Akanza Kossack, many by the influential sire WH Justice. Particularly noteworthy is A Magic Man of Kossack, now a chief sire in Germany, licensed and premium awarded by the VZAP, and already the sire of numerous premium awarded foals.
As the undisputed “queen” of the Kossack Stud breeding programme, Abakana Kossack represents the enduring strength of Russian Arabian bloodlines
