Prognoza
Prognoza
On 13 January 1990, at the renowned Michalów State Stud in Poland, a grey filly was born who would later play a significant role in Scandinavian Arabian breeding. Named Prognoza, the elegant daughter of Etogram out of Palestra by Penitent combined several of the most respected Polish bloodlines. Standing approx. 14.3 hands, she possessed the refinement, balance and presence typical of the Michalów breeding program. Exported to Sweden in 1996, Prognoza became one of the key mares at Kullatorp Arabian Stud, where she achieved notable show success and later established herself as a valuable foundation mare.
Prognoza’s pedigree reflects the strength and depth of the Polish Arabian breeding tradition. Her sire Etogram represented one of the classic sire lines that helped define the modern Polish Arabian horse. Etogram was a son of the well-known stallion El Paso, who became an influential breeding stallion thanks to the elegance, excellent movement, and strong type he transmitted to his offspring.
Behind El Paso stood the legendary stallion Czort, a horse remembered not only as an important sire but also as one of the outstanding racehorses in Polish Arabian history. Czort achieved great success on the racetrack, demonstrating the stamina and athletic ability for which Polish Arabians had long been renowned.
While Prognoza’s sire line carried the legacy of Polish performance and type, her maternal side brought the strength of one of Michalów’s productive mare families. Her dam Palestra, a daughter of Penitent, proved to be an exceptional broodmare.
Penitent himself was an influential Polish stallion who became particularly well known as a broodmare sire. His daughters often produced horses with excellent type, expressive heads and strong show presence, making them valuable foundation mares in several breeding programs.
Palestra demonstrated this influence perfectly. Among her offspring were several notable mares that achieved international recognition. The most famous of them was Palmira, by the legendary American stallion Monogramm. Palmira became one of Michalów’s greatest show mares, earning the title of World Reserve Champion Mare and winning numerous major championships across Europe.
Another daughter, Palestyna, also by Monogramm, was successful in the show ring and later continued the strength of the family as a broodmare. Within this remarkable group of siblings, Prognoza carried the same valuable maternal heritage. Although her greatest successes would come outside Poland, she remained an important representative of this distinguished Michalów family.
In her new home in Scandinavia, the elegant grey mare quickly proved the strength of her Polish pedigree in the show ring. Her show career in Sweden was remarkable. Prognoza achieved the title of Swedish National Champion Mare three times, winning the championship in 1998, 2001, and 2003. Few mares manage to return to the national arena and reclaim the top title multiple times, making this achievement particularly notable.
One of the highlights of her career came at the 2001 Swedish National Championships, where she achieved the highest score of the show. Judges and spectators alike admired her classic Arabian type, balanced conformation and expressive presence. These victories firmly established Prognoza as one of the most successful imported Polish mares in Sweden.
While Prognoza excelled in the show ring, her long-term importance lay in her role as a broodmare. At Kullatorp Arabian Stud, she became a foundation mare, producing a number of offspring that carried forward her pedigree and type.
Her first foal, Progres (1995) by the renowned stallion Monogramm, was the only offspring she produced in Poland before her export. After arriving in Sweden she continued her breeding career with several stallions from different bloodlines, resulting in foals such as Pacifica, Perfecta, Patriarch, Paradisia, Pantheon, and Purissima.
Among these, Pacifica, a grey mare born in 1999 by the Polish stallion Wadim, achieved particular recognition. Pacifica inherited her dam’s elegance and presence and later earned the title of Silver National Champion Filly 2011 in Sweden, demonstrating that Prognoza could successfully pass her quality to the next generation. Pacifica later continued Prognoza’s legacy as a broodmare at Kullatorp Arabian Stud, ensuring that this distinguished Polish family remains part of the stud’s program.
After a long life that spanned nearly three decades, Prognoza passed away on 1st of November 2018.
