Lawrence El Gazal
Lawrence El Gazal was born in 2008, a grey stallion bred by Ferdinand Huemer of La Movida Arabians, Austria. Standing approximately 15.1 hands, he is by Gazal Al Shaqab.
Bred by Al Shaqab Stud in Qatar, Gazal Al Shaqab is by Anaza El Farid and out of Kajora, and belongs to the Saklawi I sire line through Morafic. His victory at the 2001 World Arabian Horse Championships in Paris established him internationally as a leading stallion of his generation, but his importance to Arabian breeding would ultimately be measured less by his own show record than by the quality and influence of his offspring.
Gazal Al Shaqab was used extensively in international breeding, including through the Polish state studs Michalow and Janow Podlaski, where his offspring became an important part of the next generation of Polish show and breeding horses. Among his daughters were mares such as Pianissima, Pinga, Perfirka, Emandoria and Pistoria.
His most influential son is widely regarded as Marwan Al Shaqab, a World Champion Stallion. Marwan's influence as a sire transformed him into one of the most widely used stallions of modern show Arabian breeding. Through Marwan and his descendants, Gazal Al Shaqab blood became an important component of contemporary international show breeding.
Lawrence El Gazal's dam, Lara El Ludjin, was bred at La Movida Arabians in Austria and is a daughter by Ludjin El Jamaal and out of Lilyh El Jamaal. Through both parents she carries Ali Jamaal, making her double-bred to the influential stallion. She is also double-bred to El Shaklan, through his daughter Lydira El Shaklan, who appears on both sides of Lara's pedigree.
Lawrence himself entered the show ring early. In 2009, as a yearling, he won the Austrian National Junior Championship. In 2017, at the Prague Intercup, Lawrence won his class for stallions aged seven years and older and was awarded Gold in the Senior Male Championship. He subsequently won the European Cup Senior Stallions title at the same event.
That same season brought an important international result at Verona. Lawrence was awarded Silver Champion Senior Stallion at the 2017 European Championships, finishing behind Excalibur EA.
Five years later, Lawrence returned to the Prague Intercup as an established senior stallion. In 2022 he again won Gold in the Senior Male Championship and the European Cup Senior Males.
His show career has continued into his later years. In 2026, at the Austrian National Championships, Lawrence added another national Gold Championship title to his record.
Used as a breeding sire for Diamond Arabians in Austria, Lawrence El Gazal sired DA Jakarta, born in 2012 out of DA Juss'Diva. DA Jakarta was named Bronze Junior Filly Champion at the 2015 Austrian National and International Show.
Her full-sister DA Little Princess, born in 2015, developed an international show record of her own. She was Bronze Yearling Filly Champion at the Tulip Cup in 2016 and later earned Silver at the Austrian National Championships. DA Little Princess continued to compete successfully as a mature mare, including a Silver Champion Mare at the 2021 European Championships.
Lawrence El Gazal's breeding career took him beyond Austria: in 2013 he was leased to Poland, and in 2015 he was represented in the United States by Michael Byatt Arabians.
Among his foals born at Bialka Stud is Celita, a 2014 daughter out of Cella by Ekstern. As a yearling in 2015 she received Bronze in the Junior Female Championship at the Polish Nationals.
Among Lawrence El Gazal's sons, CBA Illias and EOS Apollo have established particularly notable international show records.
In Poland, Lawrence El Gazal's influence can already be seen in the next generation through his daughter Celita, whose son Celadon (by Pogrom) was retained by Bialka Stud. Celadon, a Bronze Junior Male Champion at the 2022 Bialka Junior Spring Show, subsequently entered the stud's breeding program.
